I decided not to run (or rather play) on Wednesday evening. I was pretty tired from Tuesday's long run so I took the night off.
On Thursday I strapped on the HRM to get an idea of how hard I was running. I did my usual ten minute shakeout run and then met Danny and Tom over at WVC. It was slightly on the cold side. Low 50's old for California. We ran the campus and then headed up Fruitvale. My HRM read in the 120's and 130's. So I knew I was running easy but strangely still faster than my normal slow-slow jog. We then ran Valley Vista which has uphill and downhill and rolls in the middle. During one portion I was running in the high 140's all the way up to 150. But once we hit the downhill section my HR dropped back into the 130's. It stayed there on the flats.
It told me that while I normally I train very slowly that I need to be more mindful when I am training with others (like Tom). It also told me that I need to get used to running a bit faster. NOT FAST, just faster than what I have been doing. No wonder anything under a ten minute mile pace feels like I am pushing the pace.
The run totaled 70 minutes. We did not really take any walk breaks.
